Robert “Bob” Thomas Sheils Jr., a 35-year member of IBEW Local 1439, returned home to be with his Lord and creator on July 10, 2023 at the age of 80.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, Brother Sheils believed there was nothing more important than taking care of his family. Bob’s friends were like family as well – from his Ameren UE family to his church family at St. Cletus and from his neighbors to his crew at Black River Lodge. There was nothing that Bob would not do for his friends and family. Bob served our country in the United States Army.

Bob married Susan “Sue” Derus on Nov. 12, 1966 and they were in love together until Sue’s passing four years ago. The two were married for over 50 years. Bob never wanted to miss out on the “big” moments in life like earlier this year getting to see two of his grandsons, Charlie and Carter, both graduate from high school. He loved playing poker, watching old movies and keeping his yard looking immaculate. Bob had to battle hard during his life when it came to his health. He survived a heart attack and beat cancer not once but twice.

He is proceeded in death by the love of his life Sue and his younger sister Chris. Bob is survived by his children, son Michael and his wife Jennifer, daughter Maggie and her husband Corey and Bob’s seven grandchildren Gillian, Henry, Charlie, Max, Marcella, Jude and Carter. Bob is also survived by his brother Terry and sister Peggy. He is truly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

There will be a celebration of Bob’s life on Saturday, Aug. 19 at St. Cletus Church, 2705 Zumbehl Road, St. Charles, Mo. 63301. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with mass at 11 a.m. All guests are welcome to join the family for lunch on site after the conclusion of the service.
