AFT St. Louis Local 420 members voted more than 80 percent in favor of the St. Louis Public Schools District’s “last, best and final” offer for raising salaries in the district.

The package, approved Monday, May 23, includes raising starting salaries for teachers, a $1,000 stipend in August and successive raises of eight percent, three percent, and three percent over the next three years.

“Our members questioned parts of the proposal but in the end chose not to make the good the enemy of the perfect,” Local 420 President Ray Cummings said. “We are a democracy and we listen to our members. We look forward to working with the elected school board. We are better together.”
