Springfield, IL – Standing with state employees in the Metro East, state Rep. Monica Bristow (D-Godfrey) co-sponsored legislation recently passed by the Illinois House to secure back pay owed to state employees for work already completed.

House Bill 4290 passed with bipartisan support from representatives from throughout the state.

“It’s ridiculous that the state of Illinois still owes state employees’ wages dating all the way back to 2011,” said Bristow. “This debt is now some of the oldest in Illinois and represents money owed to employees for work already completed more than seven years ago…. Local businesses are not allowed to operate in that way, and the state should have to follow the same rules when it comes to paying employees.

“We count on state workers to come to work every day to help our local governments and agencies function,” Bristow said. “We rely on them daily, so they need to be made a priority.

“I want our state workers to know that I stand with them unapologetically, and I am proud to have sponsored the legislation to restore their wages that are long overdue.”
