A chicken and beer dance fundraiser will be held March 4 for an Operating Engineers Local 520 member injured while on the job at the Phillips 66 Refinery in Wood River, Ill.

Brent McKinnon, of Carlyle, Ill., was operating a crane Dec. 6 when it malfunctioned and overturned, killing another union brother at the jobsite. Chad Crabtree, a member of Operating Engineers Local 181 in Kentucky, died in the accident. McKinnon sustained serious injuries requiring three surgeries. He is now recovering at home.

‘TRACK n’ TO RECOVERY’
The fundraiser is called “Track n’ to Recovery” since McKinnon is a racer on the local dirt late-model racing circuit. The event will be held at the Madison County Expo Hall at 2025 Park Hill Drive in Highland, Ill.

Doors open at 5, and chicken will be served at 6 p.m. Participants may bring sides. No outside alcohol will be permitted. The evening will also include live music by Benders & Backroads, live and silent auctions and a gun, hog and 50/50 raffle.
