Children of Iron Workers 396 members eligible for $10,000 scholarship

Application deadline is May 15

Children of Ironworkers Local 396 members have until May 15 to apply for the 2020 Godfrey P. Padberg Ironworkers’ Scholarship.

The $10,000 scholarship, sponsored by the Padberg, Corrigan & Applebaum law firm, is available to all children of Local 396 members who are in good standing. Members’ sons and daughters are encouraged to submit an application along with an essay setting forth their needs and merits for the award.

Applicants must be high school seniors or college freshmen, sophomores or juniors.

The Padberg, Corrigan & Applebaum law firm has represented Local 396 members for more than 50 years. The relationship between the firm and Local 396 began as a friendship between Godfrey P. Padberg, the firm’s founder, and Joseph “Buck” LaMantia, a Local 396 member.

After Padberg passed away, the firm established the scholarship to honor him and his relationship with the ironworkers. Since 2003, $150,000 in scholarships have been awarded to children of Ironworkers Local 396 members for tuition, books and supplies.
