Working people from Missouri will join thousands of people from across the country Wednesday, June 17, in a Workers First Caravan, an all-out action of national solidarity calling for the implementation of America’s Five Economic Essentials and passage of the HEROES Act.

Union members are asked to meet at 12:30 p.m. at UFCW Local 655 parking lot, 300 Weidman Road, Ballwin, MO 63021. The vehicle caravan will begin at 1 p.m.

“At 1 p.m., we will caravan in our own vehicles to Congresswoman Ann Wagner’s office (less than 1/4 mile away) and make our voices heard in a vehicle procession,” said Mike Louis, president of the Missouri AFL-CIO.

“We will make sure that all social distancing and other guidelines are followed,” he said. “We need to let our elected officials know that inaction is unacceptable, and our Labor Movement will mobilize to fight for our health, our economy and our country.

“We are calling on all workers to please do your best to take an hour out of your day to let our officials in Washington know that workers need to come first.”

FIVE ECONOMIC ESSENTIALS
AFL-CIO member unions are demanding the following Five Economic Essentials be included in CARES2 – the HEROES Act – legislation passed in the Democratically-controlled U.S. House and pending in the Republican-controlled U.S. Senate:

  1. Keep front-line workers safe.
  2. Keep workers employed and protect earned pension checks.
  3. Keep state and local governments, public schools and the U.S. Postal Service solvent and working.
  4. Keep America healthy – protect and expand health insurance for all workers.
  5. Keep America competitive – hire people to rebuild infrastructure.

Additional caravans from all across the 50 states and Puerto Rico will also be participating in solidarity actions.
