St. Louis County – Pace Construction, along with parent company Lionmark Construction Companies, has organized a huge prize raffle to benefit two Missouri Laborers who were injured after being hit by a car while on the job.

“The contractor has organized this raffle, and we are helping spread the word throughout the membership and the public to assist the workers,” said Brandon Flinn, business manager of the Missouri Kansas Laborers District Council. “They each received multiple fractures and have gone through several surgeries and will have a long road to recovery.”

The Nov. 6 accident happened near New Halls Ferry Road and Interstate 270 when a Florissant man allegedly drove through a closed construction zone at 10:30 p.m., struck three Laborers and fled the scene. The driver was caught shortly afterward and charged with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in physical injury.

Two of the workers are members of Laborers Local 110: Sean Degonia, 22, and Zachery Beaver, 38. The third worker, Josh Whitworth, 35, is a member of Laborers Local 840 in Rolla. Degonia received moderate injuries and was treated and released from the hospital. Beaver and Whitworth both suffered fractured pelvises, among other serious injuries.
