Unions win support from State Rep. Amy Elik

Alton, IL – IBEW 649 is calling out Holiday Inn for using non-union, low-wage out-of-state Harbaugh Construction, LLC, of Bloomfield, Mich. on a new Holiday Inn Express project at Homer Adams Parkway and Golf Road here.

Local 649 Business Representative Ryan Mouser said Harbaugh was also using undocumented immigrants to do framing on the project.

Local 649 bannered the project March 10 with the support of other unions including IBEW Local 309, Carpenters Local 664, Glaziers Local 513, Insulators Local 1  Iron Workers Local 392, Laborers, Midwest Carpenters Regional Council, Painters District 58 and Sheet Metal Workers Local 268.

State Representative Amy Elik (R-Alton) weighed in on the project, stating “It concerns me when I hear about out-of-town companies drastically undercutting local union laborers, who provide quality work and support our community every day. I urge a comprehensive review of this jobsite and project to ensure safety and quality standards are being met as this building progresses.”

Mouser said there will be more job actions coming on the project.
