IBEW Local 1 Bowling League sponsoring fundraiser for veterans’ bowling alley
By TIM ROWDEN
IBEW Local 1 Bowling League is sponsoring a Nine-Pin No-Tap bowling tournament to help raise money for a bowling alley at a new building the Jefferson Barracks VA is building.
There is an existing bowling alley at the VA building at the barracks, but it is being torn down to cede the land back to Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
“They use it for rehabilitation and therapy for patients that are veterans as well as other things,” IBEW League Secretary Mike Rice said. “But most importantly, they use it for veterans that have spinal cord injuries, stroke and amputations. The government does not consider this a form of rehab and will not pay for a bowling alley, but they are leaving space to build one in their new rehab building.”
Donors, including the Local 1 Bowling League and H.E.R.O.E.S. Care, an affiliation of programs that provide support to military families in the communities where they live, are raising funds to pay to construct and equip a new bowling alley in the new building to provide therapy, rehabilitation and recreation for veteran patients.
The Nine-Pin No-Tap tournament will be held Saturday, March 24, at 7 p.m. at Concord Bowl 11801 Tesson Ferry Rd. in south St. Louis County.
In a nine-pin no-tap tournament, if you bowl and get a nine count, that counts the same as a strike, and if you get nines on all 12 balls, that’s a no-tap 300.
Tickets are $25 per person. The event will include cash prizes, strike pots, 50/50 drawings and raffles.
DONATE AN OLD BALL FOR A CHANCE TO WIN
The league is also collecting slightly used bowling balls for the veterans. For every ball donated, you will receive five raffle tickets for a chance to win a brand new bowling ball.
Sponsors to date include IBEW Locals 1 and 1439, Concord Bowl, Butler Electric, Colombo’s Tavern, Dave’s World Famous Bar, Guarantee Interiors and Frost Electric. More are expected.
