St. Peters, MO – IBEW Local 1 members volunteered their recent Veterans’ Day holiday to do some much-needed work at AMVETS Post 106.
“We were honored to be able to give back to some of the people who have served this great, free land,” IBEW Local 1 member Tim Torrez said.
Local 1 volunteers swapped out more than 50 antiquated lights with modern, safer, more efficient T8 fixtures and new lamps and addressed small electrical needs at the post.
This marked Phase 1 of the volunteer project. Phase 2 will consist of removing all the existing ceiling pads, cleaning the grid, and installing proper, new pads, in the correct locations so as to bring the ceiling up to code.
All electrical and all ceiling materials were generously donated by Kaiser Electric and ACS (Acoustical Ceiling Systems).
The members of AMVETS Post 106 have served our country and continue to serve this community with things such as their Honor Guard, Adopt-A-Family holiday program, which served nearly 40 families last year, as well as many other programs.
“Their gratitude was beyond heart warming,” Torrez said. “One old veteran told me he would be honored to serve alongside of me, but really it is us who are honored to have served them!”
