IBEW Local 1439 members compete in International Lineman Rodeo

Bonner Springs, Kansas – Ten IBEW Local 1439 journeymen and apprentices took to the poles Oct. 15 for the 38th annual International Lineman Rodeo.

The event took place at the National Agriculture Center & Hall of Fame in Bonner Springs, Kansas. It attracts the best linemen from around the world to compete in events based on traditional lineman tasks.

This year’s Local 1439 competitors included Tim Flanagan, Irah Howe, Phil Barnowski, Michael Brennan, Eric Lay, Ryan Uhlmeyer, Evan Friedman, Tim Hotop, Jarett Huebner and Ethan Wingerter. The Local 1439 team from Iowa – including Brennan, Lay and Uhlmeyer, took 5th place in the Overall Journeyman Team Contractor Division.

The first Lineman’s Rodeo was held in September 1984 with 12 participating teams from Kansas and Missouri. The rodeo has grown now to over 200 teams and more than 300 apprentices that come to compete and showcase their skills.
