IN MEMORIAM: Iron Workers Local 392’s Michael Funk

Michael Wayne Funk, a member of Iron Workers Local 392, passed away April 3, 2021 at his home surrounded by family. He was 74.

Brother Funk, of Vandalia, Ill., worked as a union iron worker for 37 years. He was also a former member of the Masonic Temperance Lodge No. 16, the Old National Trail Shrine Club and the Moose Lodge No. 1447.

He was born on Dec. 8, 1946 in Vandalia, the son of Wayne Floyd and Meri (Thompson) Funk. He married Sharon K. Helige on Aug. 11, 1979, and they celebrated over 40 years of marriage.

Brother Funk is survived by his wife; sons, Timothy Funk and Todd Funk, both of Vandalia; stepson, John Wright, Jr.; grandchildren, Nichole (Funk) Wilson, Michael Funk, Lani Nuebling, Allison Funk and Anthony Funk; step-grandchildren, Jessica Wright, Tayler Wright, Shelby Rhodes and Levi Rhodes; and great-grandchildren, Kylen Cody, Karter Huston, Kailee Nehrt, Miley Funk and Aurora Wright.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Tony Funk; and stepdaughter, Shanna Wright.

A funeral service was held April 7 at Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia followed by interment at Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Memorials may be made to the Family of Michael Funk. Condolences may be shared at hohltandfilefh.com.
