IN MEMORIAM: Laborers Local 110’s Gene Cowsert

Eugene “Gene” Delnor Cowsert, a member of Laborers Local 110, passed away Sept. 23, 2021 on his birthday at age of 79.

Brother Cowsert, of Gray Summit, Mo., was born Sept. 23, 1942 in Pacific, Mo., to Louis and Violet (nee West) Cowsert. He was united in marriage to Patricia Burden on Dec. 10, 1960 in Lonedell, Mo.

He was employed in asphalt construction and was a proud member of the Local 110 for 43 years. He was also a member of the Lion’s Club and participated in all their events. He was a sports fanatic and never missed an opportunity to attend a family member’s game, as well as an avid hunter, fisherman and bowler. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, his wife, kids and grandkids.

Brother Cowsert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pat; four children, Michael (Rae) Cowsert, of Pacific; Barry and (Roseita) Cowsert, of Villa Ridge, Mo.; Tammy (Jerry) Pemberton, of Gray Summit; and Scott (Stephanie) Cowsert, of Mobile, Ala.

He is also survived by two brothers, James “Sonny” (Judy) Cowsert, of Maldin, Mo., and Freddy (Kelli) Cowsert, of Wheatland, Mo.; a sister, Tena (Junior) McPherson, of Catawissa, Mo; brother-in-laws, Gene Burden and Roger (Vicki) Malin; four sisters-in-law, Sandy (Clyde) Pich, Reida Hall, Brenda Biziallian, and Becky Cartwright; nine grandchildren, Josh, Joey, Nikki, Cory, Randall, Lauren, Clinton, Katherine, and Avery; 16 great grandchildren, Jordan, Zach, Carley, Cooper, Aria, Liam, Wyatt, Charlotte, Mara, Emma, Jeremiah, Molly, Troy, Elijah, Lucas, Jaxon; and countless “adopted kids” that claimed him as dad; other relatives and a host of friends.

Brother Cowsert was preceded in death by both his parents; six brothers, Charles Cowsert, Jr., Joe Cowsert, Kenny Cowsert, David Cowsert, Karl Cowsert and Danny Cowsert; four sisters, Wilda Beamon, Geraldine Burden, Aldora Kopf, and Edith Cowsert; two brothers-in-law, Freddy Burden and Stevie Joe Malin; and three sisters-in-law, Vicki Harvey, Sandy Lee Akins, and Stacy Leann Odell.

Gene is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pat; four children, Michael and wife Rae Cowsert, Pacific, Mo., Barry and wife Roseita Cowsert, Villa Ridge, Mo., Tammy and husband Jerry Pemberton, Gray Summit, Mo. and Scott and wife.

A Lion’s Rose ceremony was held Sept. 28 at Bell Funeral Home in Pacific, followed by funeral services. Interment will be at Brush Creek Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
