WASHINGTON, MO – Construction being performed by a non-union steel erector, Sargent Construction, has begun on a new Purcell Tire facility here. Iron Workers Local 396 Journeyman member Brian Chrun was recently out picketing Gate 1 at the jobsite to let the public know that Sargent Construction pays below area standard wages and benefits negotiated by Local 396. In an article in the Missourian newspaper March 26, 2020, Purcell officials said they want to provide the highest standard of quality and service the community has come to expect – except, apparently, when it comes to erecting their new building. Local 396 is asking that the Purcell Tire facility be placed on the St. Louis Building and Construction Trades Council’s “Do Not Patronize” list. – Iron Workers Local 396 photo
