30088305AThe following are a listing of job opportunities from the United Way Labor Participation Department Vice President Roz Sherman-Voellinger.

• GM Hiring – SLATE American Jobs Center will assist General Motors (GM) with referrals for future hiring. SLATE will refer potential candidates to a GM applicant pool. There is no minimum education or experience required to enter into the pool. GM uses a random selection process in which they select referrals, who are then offered the opportunity to begin the application process. Persons must visit SLATE in person at 1520 Market St., 3rd Floor, downtown St. Louis, Monday – Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5p.m., (exception opening at 9 a.m. on Wednesdays). The application process \ takes between 30-45 minutes.

• Lineman Training – If you are interested in an exciting career, and good pay, as an Ameren Lineman in the St. Louis area, a five – week pre-employment program is beginning soon to teach you how to climb a utility pole and to help prepare for the selection process at Ameren. Participants will want to have good work boots with a heel. Successful participants will apply to Ameren and take the company’s CAST test.  Participants passing the test will be considered by Ameren for an Apprentice Lineman position. • This BUD’s for you – St. Louis Building & Construction Trades Council, Carpenters District Council and Laborers District Council are providing pre-apprenticeship skills training — Building Union Diversity (BUD) — for minorities, women and the long-term unemployed residents of the St. Louis region interested in a construction careers.  BUD offers an intensive eight-week pre-apprenticeship skills training course, taught by nationally certified and industry approved specialists in state-of-the-art facilities.

Participants will learn skills required for entering apprenticeship with participating BUD Construction trades.

Eligible participants can be provided with work-related equipment, transportation to training sites, and a training stipend (upon completion of the program).  Trades include Bricklayers Local 1, Carpenters District Council, IBEW Local 1, Iron Workers Local 396, Laborers District Council, Operating Engineers Local 513, and Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 562.

To enroll, interested individuals must come to SLATE, 1520 Market St., 3rd Floor, St. Louis, MO 63103, Monday–Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to complete an application and assessment.
