Clayton, MO – Missouri House Minority Leader Crystal Quade (D-Springfield) brought her campaign for governor to St. Louis last week with a clear message to supporters: “I need your help.”
Quade, who’s been endorsed by the Missouri AFL-CIO, spoke to supporters during her first campaign fundraiser in the St. Louis area at Café Napoli in Clayton on Sept. 21. The event drew a packed house.
“Each year I’ve been in office, it’s gotten worse and more frustrating in Jefferson City,” Quade told supporters. “Missouri isn’t working anymore and I jumped into this race because I know we can win, but I need your help.
‘A LOT OF WORK TO DO’
“We have a lot of work to do, and I know you understand that. I’ve been here for a minute doing this work on the political side. I didn’t jump into this race with naivety, and I promise you if there wasn’t a pathway to victory, I wouldn’t be standing here right now.
“There is a pathway and we can get there but I need you guys to do it with me. If we don’t change the trajectory of our state, I’m afraid it will be too far gone. I need you to dig in. I need you to give me your money and I’m not afraid to ask.
‘MAKE PHONE CALLS, KNOCK DOORS’
“I need you to make phone calls, I need you to introduce me to your friends, I need you to knock doors when the times comes and I need you to be uncomfortable with me in spaces that are not necessarily ours always where we feel like we could win.”
Quade, the only Democrat to announce a campaign for governor, has three Republican contenders who will be facing off in the primary election. If she wins the general election, she would be Missouri’s first female governor.
