Springfield, IL – Labor-supporting state Rep. Katie Stuart (D-Edwardsville) has been appointed to a regional planning group and plans to use the position to see that regional infrastructure projects are completed.

She will serve on the Legislative Advisory Committee of the Southwestern Illinois Regional Planning Commission, working with local leaders to develop plans to address and implement infrastructure improvement projects.

Stuart voted this year for the first capital infrastructure plan that Illinois has seen in a decade, expected to generate 500,000 high-wage jobs and more than $8 billion in economic activity.

“Illinois cannot wait any longer to address crumbling infrastructure throughout the Metro East and across the state,” said Stuart. “Our region has a lot of untapped potential with our close proximity to St. Louis. We have the opportunity to grow our regional economy, create jobs and attract visitors by investing in transportation infrastructure projects.”
