ST. LOUIS LABOR COUNCIL PRESIDENT Pat White urges support for Prop S, a no-tax-increase, $160 million bond proposal on the Aug. 2 ballot to fund renovations of 60 St. Louis public schools.

Prop S, the no-tax-increase bond proposal in the City of St. Louis to raise $160 million for improvements to the city’s 60 public schools, has received the endorsement of the St. Louis Labor Council, with the strong recommendation that all city union members vote “YES” in the Aug. 2 primary.

The plan has the unanimous support of Teachers Local 420, which represents the city’s teachers and teaching aides. The funds will be spent for renovations, repairs, deferred maintenance, lead remediation, construction, and ADA accommodations to include internal and external doors and new fire alarms throughout the schools.

PROUD LABOR SUPPORT
“Organized Labor is proud to throw our support behind Proposition S when St. Louis city voters will have the opportunity to support student safety with no tax increase at all,” said Pat White, president of the St. Louis Labor Council, at a press conference June 27.

“Unions are an important part of this community, and we always look towards the future,” White said. “It isn’t only about prevailing wages and Project Labor Agreements, it’s also about keeping children safe and healthy.

INVESTING IN THE FUTURE
“If we do what is best for children, we help improve the future for the entire St. Louis region and help build the region’s workforce well into the 21st Century,” White said. “Let’s invest in the future.” He encouraged working families and all city voters to support Prop S on Aug. 2.
