Laborers Local 110 has donated $2,300 for an upcoming parents seminar on teenage drug and alcohol abuse sponsored by the Byrnes Mill Police Department and the Spring Hill Presbyterian Church.

The March 11 seminar will begin at 5 p.m. at 6247 Upper Byrnes Mill Road in Byrnes Mill, Mo. It is free and open to all parents.

‘WELL RECEIVED’
“It’s the fifth year we’ve done the program, and it’s been really well received,” said Brynes Mill Police Chief Frank Selvaggio. “We’re really grateful to Laborers Local 110 for the donation because it will help pay for an interactive bedroom with a full set of furniture that will show parents where kids hide drugs.”

In addition to the interactive bedroom, the event will feature parent resource tables and guest speakers from several local groups including the Jefferson County Health Department, the Jefferson County Juvenile Division, SSM Health and the Heroin Education & Awareness League (HEAL) Stop Heroin team.

‘ADDICTION IS REAL’
“We are proud to donate to such an important program for parents in the community,” said Laborers Local 110 Business Manager Jose Gomez. “Addiction is real and any effort to help educate and inform the public of the dangers associated with it is greatly appreciated.”

The Laborers have their own addiction program called LEAN-STL, which stands for Laborers Escaping Addiction Now. The St. Louis-based peer support system and hotline for all Laborers and their families is 100 percent confidential.

For more information on the March 11 parents seminar, contact Selvaggio at 636-677-7727, ext. 228 or at ftselvaggio@byresmill.org.
