East Alton – The Greater Madison County Federation of Labor is hoping to make the holidays a little brighter for families served by the Riverbend Head Start & Family Services Program again this year with a holiday fundraising campaign.

John Ciszczon (NALC Local 155) has been leading the campaign for seven years. When it was expanded last year to include the Federation, donations soared to more than $11,000 – used to purchase grocery gift cards for 122 client families of Riverbend.

Riverbend Head Start educates impoverished children to prepare them for kindergarten and helps their families deal with unemployment and education issues. The group works with 945 families in Madison County, operating at centers in Alton, Collinsville, Granite City, Edwardsville and Bethalto.

Federation President B. Dean Webb encouraged both affiliated and non-affiliated unions to help.

To help, send a tax-deductible donation to Riverbend Head Start & Family Services, 550 Landmarks Blvd., P.O. Box 250, Alton IL, 62002. Write “Holiday for Head Start” on the memo line of the check.

For more information, contact Ciszczon at 618-920-0914 or Rick Stamer (Ironworkers Local 392) at 618-406-1730.
