Missouri Women in Trades (MoWIT) is offering scholarships for tradeswomen interested in attending the 2019 Women Build Nations Conference in Minneapolis. The deadline to apply is Friday, Sept. 6.

The ninth annual convention, sponsored in part by the North American Building Trades Unions, is scheduled for Oct. 4-6 at the Hilton in downtown Minneapolis. Last year, more than 2,300 tradeswomen trades came together for the event, which was held in Seattle.

MoWIT is providing 10 $500 scholarships, which will help pay for registration fees and travel expenses. To be eligible for the scholarship, a tradeswoman must have attended three MoWIT meetings/events in the last six months and be willing to attend a post conference MoWIT meeting.

The conference is for women of all ages and skill levels who work, or aspire to work, in the construction trades. It brings together women from multiple construction crafts to build leadership skills, learn strategies for overcoming challenges and unite around common issues.
“We’re hoping that by providing the scholarships, we’ll be able to support tradeswomen retention and help them gain skills for career longevity,” said MoWIT President Beth Barton, a member of Carpenters Local 1596.

To apply for the scholarship, send an email to info@mowit.org by Sept. 6. Awardees will be given $250 before the conference and $250 afterward.
