MOWIT seeking nominations for tradeswomen awards

Deadline extended to Oct. 14

Missouri Women in Trades (MOWIT), dedicated to helping women enter and succeed in the building trades, is seeking nominations for its 4th Annual Blue Collar/Black Tie Tradeswomen Awards Gala on Friday, Nov. 4.

The event, which is black tie/construction chic optional, is held to recognize and honor outstanding St. Louis-area tradeswomen as well as unions and contractors who have gone the extra mile to support women in the building trades.

This year’s gala will be held from 5:30 to 11 p.m. at Sheet Metal Workers’ Local 36 Grand Hall, 2319 Chouteau Ave. in St. Louis. The evening includes dinner, a cash bar, the awards ceremony, and new this year, a silent auction basket competition.

AWARD CATEGORIES
The nomination deadline, originally set for Sept. 23, has been extended to Oct. 14. The categories include:

  • Tradeswoman of the Year Award: This is a currently working tradeswoman with at least four years of experience. She has achieved a skill level respected by her peers, supervisors, and the community, shows passion for her work and mutual respect for co-workers.
  • Breaking Barriers – Union/Pre-Apprenticeship of the Year Award: This award honors union programs or schools who support, advocate, and sustain women in the workplace. How has this union made innovations, broken barriers and improved the status of women in the skilled trades?
  • Breaking Barriers – Contractor of the Year Award: This award honors contractors who support, advocate, and sustain women in the workplace. How has this company made innovations, broken barriers and improved the status of women in the skilled trades?
  • Gina Walsh Legacy Award: This award will be given to a tradesperson or inclusive ally who has made significant and lasting contributions to the community or the industry over a period of time. 

In addition to the individual awards, MOWIT will recognize tradeswomen’s career advancements, including those who have entered into an apprenticeship program in the last year, tradeswomen who have journeyed out and those who have received promotions to foreman, general foreman and superintendent.

TICKETS, SPONSORSHIPS, ADS
MOWIT has also extended the deadline to Oct. 14 to purchase tickets to the event, sponsorships and advertising in the program book. Tickets to the event are $50 for apprentices, $75 per person or $600 for a table of eight.
