NAWIC kicks off Women in Construction (WIC) Week with 5 events

The St. Louis Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) is sponsoring five events to celebrate Women in Construction (WIC) Week March 5-11 to raise awareness of the opportunities available for women in the construction business and the growing role of women in the industry.

This year’s events include:

• March 6 – Breakfast & Book Signing will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Woodard Restoration, 9490 Watson Road, in Crestwood. Special guests include Jennifer Bardot and Carrie Bruggraf, authors of Owning Your G.R.I.T. and its collection and Ryan Spell, author of An Army of Lies. The event includes a buffet-style breakfast by Chris’ Pancakes.

• March 7 – Women Build Kickoff Party will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Habitat St. Charles Restore, 186 Mid Rivers Center, in St. Peters. Attendees, regardless of construction knowledge, will learn about Habitat’s Women Build Program.

• March 8 – Women’s Construction Career Expo is set for 1 to 4 p.m. at the Teamsters Local 682 union hall, 5730 Elizabeth Ave., in St. Louis. Attendees will learn about construction careers and training from local building trades apprenticeship schools. Mentoring opportunities will be available through NAWIC, Missouri Women in Trades and the Construction Forum.

• March 9 – WIC Week Armory Social will be held from at The Armory, 3660 Market St., in St. Louis from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Attendees are welcome to bring their competitive spirit and partake in various backyard-style games at St. Louis’ newest attraction.

• March 10 – NAWIC Women Build Day, sponsored by NAWIC, Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County and Women Build, will be held from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. in St. Charles County. Volunteer for a day of service to help build a home. No experience necessary.
