ONE MAN’S VIEW: Biden: ‘We will build America back better’

During the Democratic National Convention, America saw the soul, the sincerity, the sinew of the Democratic nominee for president of the United States — Joe Biden.

In a presentation that projected a positive future for America, for working families, for citizens of all hues, Joe Biden spoke from his heart about family, about his beliefs, about his goals for our nation and couched them all in the single word that will exemplify his campaign and his presidency: POSSIBILITIES.

“I have always believed you can define America in one word: Possibilities. That in America, everyone, and I mean everyone, should be given the opportunity to go as far as their dreams and God-given ability will take them,” he said filled with heart-felt emotions.

HUMANITY OF BIDEN
Joe Biden spoke with conviction, confidence, clarity.

And most of all, a humanity borne from tragedy, the loss of three loved ones: a wife, a daughter, a son.

What was more powerful than the message and the stunning presentation, was the humility and sincerity that is truly Joe Biden… and the stark contrast that presents between the leader he will be and the incumbent shell of a man who has failed us at every turn in his presidency.

And for our readers, it was clear that Joe Biden understands the value of unions and union families, knowing full well that unions have built the American middle class and given workers a decent paycheck and a dignity that comes with work.

He spoke to “newly empowered Labor unions. With equal pay for women. With rising wages you can raise a family on. Yes, we’re going to do more than praise our essential workers. We’re finally going to pay them.”

BUILDING AMERICA BACK BETTER
He stressed the need for a new economic revolution to revitalize and grow America into a more positive future. “That’s why my economic plan is all about jobs, dignity, respect and community… we’ll not only build it back, we’ll build it back better.”

And then he outlined a progressive plan to do it: “… roads, bridges, highways, broadband, ports and airports, clean water to every community, five million new manufacturing and technology jobs, a health care system that lowers premiums, deductibles and drug prices by building on the Affordable Care Act… an education system that trains our people for the best jobs of the 21st century, where cost doesn’t prevent young people from going to college, and student debt doesn’t crush them when they get out…to lead the world in clean energy and create millions of new good-paying jobs in the process.”

HOW TO PAY FOR IT?
And to answer the question he knows will come, “How to pay for it all?” he said bluntly what we’ve all been saying for years: ending the tax giveaways and loopholes for the richest 1% and demand that corporations pay their fair share in taxes.

Few Americans know that in 2018, as a result of the 2017 new Trump/Republican tax law, 60 of the nation’s largest companies didn’t pay a dime in taxes on a collective $79 billion in profits, according to The Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy. As a result, America LOST $16.45 billion in federal income taxes that could have gone to America’s needs.

And to add insult to injury, the distorted business-oriented Trump tax laws allowed those same companies to claim $4.3 billion in rebates, taking more of our tax money away from our country’s needs!

BIDEN: HE’LL GOVERN, NOT ‘RULE’
Frank Bruni, a columnist for the New York Times summed it up perfectly:

“He was making clear that he wouldn’t rule as some self-obsessed despot whose personal melodramas sucked the energy out of everyone and everything else. He wouldn’t rule at all. He’d govern. It’s a different, humbler thing.”

AMEN!

To make the POSSIBILITIES a reality, each of us has one great challenge to meet, one job to do: VOTE, and make sure our family, friends, and every concerned associate does the same.

Yes there are man-made obstacles, but, with a responsible adult in the White House, we can, we will, build America back better.
