Fenton, MO – Cody Sallens, an 18-year member of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 562, has opened SOTAC Plumbing Services as a tribute to his dad, who was also a member of the union.
SOTAC stands for State of the Art Craftsman, Sallens said. The new business, located in Fenton, specializes in both residential and commercial plumbing.
“My dad, Ronald, always wanted to open his own business, and when I was growing up, he called me a ‘craftsman’ because I could take anything apart and then put it back together, and it would work,” Sallens said. “So the name of the business is kind of a tribute to him.”
Sallens said there was no question about joining Local 562 as a signatory contractor.
“There was no other option,” Sallens said. “The wages, benefits and pension can’t be beat. It’s like being part of a family.”
Local 562 Business Manager John O’Mara said the day Cody signed on as a signatory contractor was a special day, and that it was very exciting to see the opportunities ahead of him.
“Cody has taken on a big challenge but is extremely qualified to start his own business,” O’Mara said. “We are so proud of his efforts at Local 562 and couldn’t be happier to see him succeed in this next step of his career.”
