Belleville, IL – Each year Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 101 donates money to help out the Interfaith Food Pantry here. This year the Local decided to challenge the membership to a food drive.

Every member who attended the December union meeting/Christmas party was asked to bring in at least one item of non-perishable food to donate.

The membership came through huge with the donations. About 100 members were in attendance, and they brought in enough food to fill two crates for the food pantry.

Michael Foppe of Interfaith Food Pantry said all the food that is donated or collected will remain in the immediate area.

The food pantry currently is providing food for around 450 families per month, with an additional 50 people who are homeless.

With the success of the food drive this Christmas, the Local has decided to make this an ongoing food drive and is hoping to be able to deliver food two times a year to the pantry.
