Rededication of Mallinckrodt Uranium Workers’ Memorial at Weldon Spring set for May 28

Weldon Spring, MO – A Rededication Ceremony to honor and pay tribute to the Mallinckrodt workers involved in the nation’s nuclear weapons industry for their selfless contribution to our nation, and to their many surviving family members is scheduled for Sunday, May 28 at the Weldon Spring Site Interpretive Center, 7295 Missouri Route 94, St. Charles, Mo. 63304

The program will also honor and pay tribute to all Missouri DOE/AWE workers, including but not limited to production, office, maintenance, etc., as well as the remediation, construction workers involved in the clean-up and demolition of these sites across Missouri, including Mallinckrodt St. Louis Plant, Mallinckrodt Weldon Spring Plant, United Nuclear Plant, Hematite, Latty Ave., SLAPSS, Tyson Valley Powder Farm, Kansas City Plant/Honeywell.

St. Louis Ironworker’s Local 396 built and donated a 10×10 replica of the St. Louis Arch for the original dedication at the request of Denise Brock, ombudsman to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).. The Arch Memorial now has been placed in the new center and has an entire auditorium dedicated to it.

EVENT DETAILS

  • The Rededication Ceremony begins promptly at 2 p.m. Workers will be recognized and honored for their selfless contributions and awarded lapel pins.
  • $200 Million has been paid out to Missouri workers, and $23 billion nationwide through the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Program Act (EEOICPA) enacted in 2000. The program continues to pay out monetary and medical compensation to compensate workers across the nation who were made ill or died, due to their work in the nation’s nuclear weapons industry. Details on the compensation program will be available at the rededication ceremony.
