United Food & Commercial Workers Local 655 has filed for an election at a second cannabis shop in Missouri, President David Cook announced last week.

Workers at Bloom Medicinals, O’Fallon, have filed a petition to hold an election with the goal of joining Local 655 and negotiating a first contract. Root 66 Cannabis Dispensary, 3737 S. Grand, voted last month to join Local 655. It was the first cannabis dispensary in Missouri to organize.

Bloom employees cited treatment in the workplace as a significant concern, saying they didn’t feel respected by management and wanted consistent and fair treatment on the job, Local 655 noted in announcing the upcoming election.

“Every day we hear from more and more cannabis workers who want to improve their workplace and their standard-of-living by joining a union,” Cook said. “This is a new industry in Missouri and these workers are seeking good wages and quality benefits that all workers deserve.”

UFCW is the official AFL-CIO designated cannabis Labor union. Representing tens of thousands of cannabis workers in dispensaries, labs, delivery, manufacturing, processing, grow facilities and more, the UFCW works with employees and business owners to achieve the shared goal of a regulated cannabis industry that delivers family-sustaining jobs and is focused on social equity.
