There are several events planned to commemorate National Women in Construction Week, which kicks off March 3.

The week celebrates and promotes the role of women in the construction industry. The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) held the first WIC Week in 1998 and it has grown and expanded each year since. Many of local chapters hold WIC Week events, which can include making presentations to high school classes, job site tours, luncheons and virtual events.

This year’s theme, Keys to the Future, celebrates the strength and knowledge of women and the vital role they play in shaping the future of the construction industry.

EVENTS
Three events are being hosted by the St. Louis Chapter of NAWIC. They include:

  • March 4 – Breakfast & Growth, Resilience, Intention, and Tenacity (GRIT) Panel will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at The Lodge at Des Peres at 1050 Des Peres Road in Des Peres. Guest speakers will be female authors from the GRIT series of books, who also work in the construction industry. The GRIT series is a collection of several authors sharing their stories on overcoming adversity to empower and inspire others. The books were compiled by Jennifer Bardot.
  • March 6 – Virtual lunch & learn will be held via Zoom beginning at 11:30 a.m.
  • March 7 – LitShop tour begins at 4 p.m. at LitShop at 4255 McRee in St Louis. LitShop provides afterschool and summer programming that pairs engaging literacy opportunities with building and making for girls and gender-expansive youth ages 10-17. By intentionally creating a supportive space where girls can take risks, explore creatively, build skills and connect with peers, LitShop fosters leadership and confidence its builders can use through adolescence and early adulthood. Happy hour will follow at a place to be determined.
