Sauget, IL – Steamfitters Local 439’s annual Night at the Grizzlies to help the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance Burn Camp for Kids is all about having fun for a good cause. This year’s event will be held June 9 and will feature the annual pork steak picnic before the game.
This is the 15th year for the event, chaired by Local 439’s Janie Bailey, to give kids from throughout Illinois who have suffered burn injuries a chance to enjoy fun and outdoor activities in a special setting.
Over the years, the local’s efforts have raised some $400,000 for the camp in memory of Bailey’s cousin George Bailey, who was fatally injured in 2004 in an explosion of superheated water at the Granite City Works plant then owned by U.S. Steel.
“This is our 15th year doing this event and am honored to put this on to make a difference in these kids’ lives,” Janie Bailey said. “In memory of George Bailey, we strive to make a difference in the lives of burn survivors. That is why the I.F.S.A. Burn Camp for kids is so special to us.”
You can help Local 439 make a difference for the kids by buying tickets to the event, becoming a home sponsor, or sponsoring gift cards, Cardinals tickets or other prizes.
“We usually do 20 or more raffles at the pre-game picnic and during the game,” Bailey said. “If you have not come to our event before, you’re in for a treat.
The annual pre-game pork steak picnic, with music, will begin at 5:45 p.m., followed by the game at 7:05 p.m., with the Grizzlies playing against the Florence Freedoms at GLC Ballpark off Interstate 255 at Mousette Lane south of St. Louis.
Tickets are $25 each.
