Granite City – Sonny Roedersheimer, of Sparta, a recent retiree from U.S. Steel Granite City Works, was honored recently at the December meeting of the SOAR (Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees) Granite City Chapter 7-34-2 for providing the fish for two big fish fries the group held last year.

Retired for three years, Roedersheimer has two fishing lakes at his home, filled with crappie and other fish.

“He started doing a lot of fishing and decided he could supply us for fish fries two times a year,” Chapter president Jeff Rains reported. “It’s excellent, good-tasting fish.”

Roedersheimer provided 80 pounds of fish for each of the two group luncheons.

Rains wanted to recognize Roedersheimer for his contribution, so at the December Christmas party, he was given a plaque reading, “Presented to Sonny Roedersheimer, in special recognition and appreciation of your hard work with the fish fries. SOAR wishes to let you know how much we appreciate you and your dedication. Thank you!”
