Steelworkers 1063’s Roy L. Evans killed in industrial accident

Roy L. Evans, a 54-year-old Steelworkers Local 1063 member, died Dec. 13 when he was crushed by a stack of skids – 2,000-pound metal frames –while on the job at the American Steel Foundry in Granite City.

Brother Evans was a 15-year-employee at American Steel.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the incident.

Brother Evans is survived by his wife, Vicki Evans of Carrollton; their four children and spouses, Mandi and Jesus Castrejon of Thornton, IL, Jacob Longley of Kane, Amanda and Kevin Triebes of Jerseyville, IL, and Travis Evans of the home; three grandchildren: four brothers: Jimmie Evans Jr., Tommy Evans, Tommy Springer and Jamie Evans; five sisters: Mary Ruth Pummer, Becky Caldwell, Kim Davern, Michelle Springer, and Gina Workman.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmie Evans Sr. and his stepfather, Jerry Gardner.

Funeral services were held Dec. 19 with interment at Kane Cemetery. Memorials may be given to assist with his youngest son, Travis in care of Crawford Funeral Home, 1308 IL-109, Jerseyville, IL 62052.
