Wentzville – UAW Local 2250 will hold a Support Our Soldiers (S.O.S.) Poker Run Sunday, Sept. 24 to benefit the Suicide Prevention Program at the Jefferson Barracks Division of the VA St. Louis Health Care System.

The event marks the 12th annual poker run for Local 2250, and it is the second year in a row the union has chosen the VA’s suicide prevention program as its cause, said Ron Lane, Local 2250’s Veterans Committee chairman.

“Our union has over 300 vets and some are on active duty or in the Reserves or National Guard,” Lane said. “Some of those vets suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, which means they have a higher likelihood of committing suicide. This is our way of addressing the issue head on.”

Check in for the event is from 10 a.m. to noon at the 2250 Union Hall at 1395 E. Pearce Blvd. in Wentzville. All cars and bikes are welcome. The poker run will include first-, second- and third-place cash prizes, door prizes, food and drink specials and live music at the last stop.

The cost is $10 for the first poker hand per person and $5 for each additional hand per person. Stops will include the Hideout Bar & Grill in Warrenton, Concert Hall & Barrel in Hermann, Driftwood Distillery in Washington and Terry & Kathy’s Inn in Defiance.

To pre-register for the event or to make a contribution, make checks payable to UAW Local 2250 and mail to UAW Local 2250, 1395 E. Pearce Blvd., Wentzville, MO 63385. Please write S.O.S. in the memo line.
