St. Charles – A vote will be held next Wednesday, June 11, on a tentative contract covering some 9,000 members of United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 655 working at Schnucks, Dierbergs and Shop ‘N Save markets, Local 655 President David Cook announced.

Local 655 members at Straubs are not involved.

The meeting, at the St. Charles Family Arena, begins at 7 p.m. The tentative agreement has the unanimous recommendation for approval from the union’s negotiating committee.

Details of the agreement will be distributed to all Local 655 members working in the food industry with their paychecks this week.

After a thorough discussion of the proposal, including a question and answer period, a secret ballot vote will be held. Should the tentative agreement be rejected, a secret ballot strike vote will be taken.

“It’s important that every member be at the meeting,” Cook stressed. “Our union stores are operating in a very difficult competitive climate. The proposal reflects compromises both from the company and the union. It’s important that everyone understand the issues and vote.”
