If you’ve got a hankering for great BBQ, you need to mark Saturday, Sept. 17 on your “to do” calendar. That’s when UFCW Local 655 will hold its fourth annual community fund-raising BBQ at the Central City Shop ‘n Save, 10805 Old Halls Ferry Road from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The event will raise funds for Sickle Cell research, a disease that currently has no cure and affects one in every 12 African Americans, Local 655 President David Cook announced.
Local 655’s efforts have raised $18,800 at this event over the past three years.
Featured again this year will be:
- Great food with rib tips, burgers, hot dogs and all the traditional trimmings.
- Great fun with a host of free attendance prizes.
COMMUNITY INVITED
“We invite the entire community to join with us to raise funds to help find a cure for this tragic disease,” said Cook.
Local 655 is in the process of inviting unions, religious groups and businesses to co-sponsor the fun-filled day which promises to make this the best fund-raising effort to date, Cook said, adding:
“We are committed to this effort because it’s a disease that has no known cure for the more than 100,000 Americans who are impacted each year.”
Local 655 expressed its appreciation to Holten Meat Co., who will donate all the hamburger, and Shop ‘n Save who is donating $500 in supplies and food.
