$30,800 donated to Faces of Our Children in first four BBQs

If you love great barbecue and doing good, you should mark Saturday, Sept. 30, on your calendar. That’s when UFCW Local 655 will hold its Fifth Annual Community BBQ at the Ferguson Schnucks store, 49 N. Florissant Road, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., to raise funds for research of Sickle Cell, a disease that currently has no cure and affects one in every 12 African-Americans, Local 655 President David Cook announced.

Local 655’s efforts have raised $30,800 at this event over the past four years.

This year’s event will include great food with rib tips, burgers, hot dogs and all the trimmings, as well as a host of attendance prizes.

COMMUNITY INVITED TO HELP FIND A CURE

“We invite the entire community to join with us to raise funds to help find a cure for this tragic disease,” Cook said.

Local 655 and UFCW International are working to raise awareness and support for much needed funding for research and study through Faces of Our Children, a 501(c)(3) charity.

“We are committed to this effort because it’s a disease that has no known cure for the more than 100,000 Americans who are impacted each year,”Cook said.
