Union members, local contractors and Labor allies teamed up to take a swing for the Missouri Works Initiative at its Inaugural Topgolf (Top Contender) Tournament last week.
The initiative, a non-profit organization sponsored and supported by the Missouri AFL-CIO, has solidified itself as a known and trusted organization to eliminate barriers for individuals seeking life-sustaining employment through several programs that provide a pipeline of skilled and diversified talent to area locals, contractors and employers.
The March 2 event was held at Topgolf, 16851 N. Outer 40 Road, in Chesterfield. Topgolf is a popular driving range game in which players take aim at giant outfield targets with micro-chipped balls that score themselves.
“We’re really pleased with the turnout,” said Missouri AFL-CIO President Jake Hummel. “We had 24 teams, and our union members and contractors really showed up to support the Initiative.”
Hummel hopes to make the tournament a yearly event. – Labor Tribune photos
