The heart of union workers across America is certainly evident in the outpouring of support for UNITE HERE hospitality and food service workers, with $1.5 million in donations pouring in as of last week to help the tens of thousands of UNITE HERE members across the U.S. who have been laid-off due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

$56K IN LOCAL DONATIONS
In St. Louis, UNITE HERE Local 74 has more than 85 percent of its membership out of work, with few prospects that their jobs will return anytime soon. To date, $56,000 has been raised by local donations to the UNITE HERE Education and Support Fund. Nationally, the fund has provided aid to more than 60,000 working families in 40 cities across America.

“We deeply appreciate the solidarity shown by our Brothers and Sisters. It’s been a true lifeline for our members,” said Local 74 President Kevin McNatt. “Every penny donated goes directly to our members and their families in need.”

YOUR HELP STILL NEEDED
You can help by making a donation to the UNITE HERE Education and Support Fund for hospitality workers displaced by COVID-19.

Funds will be used to help hospitality workers:

  • Maintain family health insurance coverage during layoffs or reduced hours.
  • Help pay for food, rent, and utilities.
  • Retrain for new jobs during the business downturn.

You can make an online donation by visiting secure.actblue.com/donate/unite-here and designating “Local 74” to ensure your donation helps local union members.

Donations may also be made by mailing a check payable to UNITE HERE Education & Support Fund, c/o Kara Kelly, 49 W. 69th Street, Apt. 1B, New York, NY 10023, with “Local 74” indicated in the memo line.
