The St. Louis chapter of the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW) will dedicate its March 18 Women’s History Brunch in memory of Alice Moore-Jones, the organization’s vice president.

Sister Moore-Jones, who passed away unexpectedly Feb. 18, was a founding member of the local CLUW chapter, which was formed in 1973. The UAW Local 136 retiree had served as CLUW’s president for 10 years.

The brunch will focus on ways women can get involved to help put “right to work” on the ballot in Missouri. The topic was near and dear to Sister Moore-Jones; she had been fighting “right to work” since 1978.

The event, which coincides with Women’s History Month, will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the CWA Local 6300 Union Hall at 2258 Grissom Drive in Maryland Heights. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m.

It will feature several guest speakers, including Missouri AFL-CIO Political Director Merri Berry, who will explain what the agency is doing to put “right to work” on the ballot for voters to decide and give specifics on how to volunteer.

LIVE MUSIC

Tickets for the brunch are $25 each or $175 for a table of eight. The brunch also includes live music by union musicians and a lunch catered by Maggie O’Brien’s. Space is limited, and the reservation deadline to attend the event is Monday, March 13.

Advertisements are also available for purchase in the event’s program booklet. A half-page ad is $80 and a full-page ad is $150. A full-page, inside cover, full-color ad is $300, and the back cover, which is also full color, is $400. The ad space reservation deadline is Friday, March 10.

The St. Louis chapter of CLUW has been active in the St. Louis Labor Movement for more than 40 years. Its members have engaged in the fight to defeat “right to work for less” and paycheck deception efforts, joined CATE, the coalition to expose sex and labor trafficking here and abroad, and stood with the Show Me $15 organizing drive fighting for $15 an hour and a union.
