St. Louis – The St. Louis Board of Aldermen unanimously passed a Service Employees (SEIU) Local 1 sponsored worker retention bill that will enhance protections for workers and ensure that on city contracts, workers have an opportunity to keep their jobs when there is a change of contractor.

The bill is a major victory for working families across St. Louis.

Local 1 worked closely with the bill’s lead sponsor, Alderwoman Anne Schweitzer, and other allies on the Board of Aldermen to propose the worker retention bill and get it passed and signed by Mayor Tishaura O. Jones.

“Working families deserve job security and this bill protects essential workers under contract with city agencies and ensures buildings maintain the high quality service expected by the community,” Local 1 said.
