Lifetime appointments to the Supreme Court have created an elite class of justices, immune to the consequences of their actions and decisions.
The lack of Supreme Court term limits fosters an environment ripe for corruption, where decisions can be swayed by long-standing political affiliations, personal biases, or worse, the interests of the powerful few who have their ears.
From Justice Clarence Thomas’s failure to disclose luxury trips funded by a wealthy donor to Justice Samuel Alito’s participation in a case involving a company in which he held stock, it’s clear that as time goes by impartiality and accountability are increasingly compromised.
It’s time for term limits for Supreme Court justices. We must liberate our highest court from the stranglehold of lifetime tenure.
