YOUR LETTERS: Working people deserve better

Last month when Congress made a deal to avoid a damaging government shutdown, Republicans chose a short-term solution. The new deadline is Nov. 17, meaning we have less than a month before we face another potential shutdown.

Now, extremist Republicans are proposing devastating budget cuts that could hurt working families.

Among the proposed cuts are important programs such as Head Start, worker training, the National Labor Relations Board, agencies that protect our health and safety on the job, the Inflation Reduction Act, transportation funds, low-income housing and programs that tackle poverty. If they don’t get their way, extremists are threatening to shut down the government again.

Working people deserve a budget that creates good jobs and protects families, not another shutdown.
