Do you have acting talent in you? Here’s a chance to put it to good use.

Bread & Roses has issued a casting call for this year’s Workers’ Opera – a performance by workers for workers.

In an email post, the organization is seeking union members and other folks – anyone and everyone who would like to perform. “Your voice is essential,” says the casting call.

Submit your name to Executive Director Emily Kohring at director@breadandrosesmo.org or reach her at (314) 380-0174.

Workers’ Opera is a live production consisting of a series of collectively written vignettes about issues that matter to working people. The diverse ensemble consists of union members and workers, from across industries, who advocate for social change through art.

OPERA DRIVES CHANGE
Past topics have included raising the minimum wage, Medicaid expansion, immigration reform and supporting the defeat of the so-called “right-to-work (for less)” in Missouri. The community needs Workers Opera now more than ever!

Bread and Roses Missouri is a celebration of the arts in the lives of working people and their families. As the Labor hymn for which the organization is named reminds us, “Hearts starve as well as bodies … give us bread and give us roses.”

ABOUT BREAD & ROSES
Bread and Roses Missouri uses an arts lens to examine social and economic justice issues in all its programming. They believe that cultural and creative expression are a means to effect deep and lasting social change. The group participates in arts and humanities events, exhibits and workshops for and about workers and their families to address the root causes of poverty and inequality.
