Downtown St. Louis – Joined by “Greedy the Fat Cat” and “Scabby the Rat,” local unions (from left) Bricklayers Local 1, Operating Engineers 513 and IBEW Local 1 bannered the SoHo Apartments project at 1501 S. 7th St. last week, calling out Lux Living and Big Sur Construction for hiring non-union contractors – including Larios Masonry and St. Louis Electric – that pay below area standard wages and benefits. Lux Living is an LLC formed by Victor Alston and Sidarth Chakraverty, the same pair behind STL CityWide Properties – formerly Asprient Properties, which had an occupied apartment building partially collapsed in the Central West End in May 2021.
