In a year of unparalleled challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic, IBEW/NECA Electrical Connection member contractor Guarantee Electrical has earned top honors for powering the region’s COVID-19 response effort.

The Electrical Connection is a partnership between IBEW Local 1 and the St. Louis Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA).

The Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Missouri saluted Guarantee with its Keystone Award in the new Coronavirus Pandemic Response category for Guarantee’s work in March 2020 to help create the region’s first alternative healthcare facility to serve COVID-19 patients. Guarantee also was named 2020 Specialty Contractor of the Year in the electrical category.

Winners of the 2020 Construction Keystone Awards were announced during a hybrid virtual and in-person event at the St. Peters Performing Arts Theatre. AGC noted the new Coronavirus Pandemic Response category honored “projects performed with lightning speed in response to COVID-19 medical needs.”

ALTERNATIVE HEALTHCARE FACILITY
During the last week of March, Guarantee Electrical Company joined with general contractor Tarlton Corporation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to build out the first alternative healthcare facility conversion in Missouri in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Guarantee also was tasked with outfitting temporary triage units and mobile testing stations at multiple area healthcare facilities.

ADDITIONAL HONORS FOR GUARANTEE
Guarantee also earned honors as a Keystone Awards finalist for its work on the MEMC Global Wafers SOI Building Expansion Project and the SSM Health Saint Louis University Replacement Hospital.

Guarantee was engaged to provide electrical construction services in support of MEMC Global’s addition to its existing clean-room SOI production building, joining a team consisting of L. Keeley Construction Co. and Bilfinger Industrial Services. The assignment is a continuation of over a decade in which Guarantee provided electrical and communications support services to MEMC’s Level 1 Cleanroom facilities and manufacturing processes, especially with respect to providing reliable electrical power and high-speed data communications.

On the SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital project, Guarantee joined a team led by Alberici Corporation to construct the new 11-story, 600,000 square-foot replacement hospital. Guarantee’s role as the electrical and communications systems contractor was to assure the university hospital and its medical campus infrastructure were fully supplied with the power and communications systems needed to continue its 200-year mission of meeting the St. Louis community’s healthcare and medical education requirements.

PAYNECREST ELECTRIC was honored as a finalist for its work on City Foundry STL, a transformation by Steve Smith and Lawrence Group of the historic, former Century Electric Co. foundry complex in St. Louis’ Midtown.

PAYNECREST ELECTRIC
Another Electrical Connection member contractor, Olivette-based PayneCrest Electric, was honored as a finalist for its work on City Foundry STL, a transformation by Steve Smith and Lawrence Group of the historic former Century Electric Co. foundry complex in Midtown St. Louis, creating a new electrical infrastructure within the existing building, while restoring the historic features of the space. Since the 15-acre lot wasn’t set up for its current use, PayneCrest collaborated with its team and partners to develop solutions tailored for installations.

“Our IBEW workforce is proud to have worked with our NECA partners on these projects,” said Frank Jacobs, IBEW Local 1 business manager. “When you dig deep into the challenging nature of the assignments, the value of combining proficient management skills by NECA contractors with IBEW’s skilled and safe workforce becomes clear.”

St. Louis NECA contractors and their IBEW Local 1 workforce have been saluted by the AGC for their work on more than 100 projects, 33 of which have been named AGC Keystone Award winners.
