Luke Barber, a four-year partner with Local 655 employed at Schnucks, may have lost his campaign for state representative, but that hasn’t stopped him from succeeding elsewhere in local government. Barber was recently named to the St. Louis County Commission on Disabilities.

Barber has been an advocate for disability rights for most of his young life, and the commission appointment is an ideal fit.

Barber was a first-time candidate when he ran as a Democrat against the Missouri House Majority Floor Leader, Republican Dean Plocher. Despite being new to politics, he earned more than 10,000 votes and more than 40 percent of the vote.

If you or someone you know is interested in running for elected office, or would like to learn more about boards and commissions in your community that might be of interest, you should contact your union representative immediately.
