Members of Gas Workers Local 11-6 volunteered at the St. Charles County Fair recently in memory of fallen Brother Alex Boschert, who along with fellow union gas worker William Froelich, was shot and killed on the job on April 20, 2017 in St. Louis.
Boschert, 27, was a member of the St. Charles County Fair Board.
Retired Local 11-6 member Rod Hermann said the group worked the fair for three days at the front gate, the tug-a-war contest and the beer booth.
“Although the incident happened in 2017, it feels like it was just yesterday,” said Hermann. “We thought it would be a good way to honor his memory since he was active with the fair board.”
Local 11-6 President Steve Lane said, “We did it for Alex’s family. It’s a feel good thing.”
Boschert and Froelich were connecting gas to a home in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood when a gunman walked up to them and started shooting, police said. The gunman, Clinton Willis, 51, turned the gun on himself after shooting the men.
