JUDGE MARY KAY O’BRIEN has received the endorsement of the Illinois Federation of Teachers for the Illinois Supreme Court (3rd District) in the June 2022 Primary Election.

The Illinois Federation of Teachers (IFT) has announced an early endorsement for the Illinois Supreme Court (3rd District) judicial race in the June 2022 Primary Election.

The IFT Executive Board unanimously voted to endorse Judge Mary Kay O’Brien for Illinois Supreme Court (3rd District).

Much is at stake in state supreme court elections since justices wield tremendous power to limit our freedoms. Now more than ever, it is crucial to elect justices who will protect collective bargaining, defend public education, and support the rights of working families.

‘STRONG SUPPORTER OF WORKING FAMILIES’
“Since the start of her career, Judge O’Brien has been a strong supporter for Illinois’ working families,” said IFT President Dan Montgomery. “Her deep ties to the community, history of public service, and extensive experience will make her a fair and impartial justice.”

“It is a great honor to receive the endorsement of the IFT, who are at the forefront fighting to protect collective bargaining and defend public education,” said Judge O’Brien. “Our shared values of fairness and leveling the playing field for working families have served as a north star throughout my career and these values are what I will bring to the Illinois Supreme Court.”

The endorsement reflects the results of the IFT’s robust candidate review process, which includes candidate surveys, regional discussions, and thorough consideration by the 40 elected members of the union’s Executive Board, who represents our diverse local unions statewide.

PROTECTING PUBLIC EDUCATION AND WORKING FAMILIES
“Judge O’Brien has been a dedicated public servant first as a state representative protecting public education and working families, and now as a fair, even-handed Appellate Court Judge. As an Illinois Supreme Court Justice, I am confident she will continue making sure that individuals are treated fairly by the court,” said AFT Local 604 President and IFT Vice President Bill Briggs.

“Our union and our members look forward to supporting Judge O’Brien on the ground and at the ballot box in the days leading up to the Primary Election on June 28,” added Montgomery.
