IN MEMORIAM: IBEW Local 1 Executive Board member David Sachse

David “Dave” M. Sachse, a former IBEW Local 1 executive board member, passed away Jan. 13, 2021 at age 63.

Brother Sachse, of Pompano Beach, Fla., was a 40-year, second-generation member of Local 1. His father, Roy Sachse, was the business manager of Local 1 from 1968 to 1975 after serving as a business representative.

Following in the footsteps of his father, Brother Sachse joined Local 1 and took an interest in leadership at the union. After serving on the Local 1 Examining Board, he was appointed to the Executive Board in 2001 and that same year, he was elected as a delegate to the International Convention. His two brothers, Larry and Roy Jr., were also members of Local 1.

His nephew, Nick Sachse, currently serves on the Local 1 Executive Board. Sachse said his uncle, who retired in 2006, was well liked and will be sorely missed.

“He was always in a good mood,” Sachse said of his uncle. “He was always willing to help people in the Local and he was well respected. No one had a bad word to say about him.”

Brother Sachse is survived by his brother Larry (Cathy) Sachse, his sister Lisa (Darrick) Sachse-Warfield, several nephews and nieces, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Marie (nee Buffa) Sachse, and his brother, Roy Sachse, Jr.

The family plans to have a celebration of life ceremony for Brother Sachse at Local 1 later this year.
