Bernard Michael Ems, a 40-year member of IBEW Local 1439, passed away on Sept. 2, 2023, at the age of 82.
He retired from substations as an electrical mechanic from Ameren in 2006. Brother Ems was a big NASCAR fan, especially of Jeff Gordon, and enjoyed attending concerts with his wife – their most recent experience being seeing Elton John. He appreciated spending time with his wife in many other ways, from traveling to simply enjoying breakfast together. He was well known for being a man who would always enjoy socializing with his family and friends.
Brother Ems was the beloved husband of Terry Lee Ems (nee Vintorin); devoted father of Mandy (Charles) Montgomery; cherished grandfather of Gavin Montgomery; dear brother of Charles (Kathy) Ems and the late Marie (the late Bernie) Terbrock; brother-in-law to Judy. Bernie is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews and many friends.
A funeral was held Sept. 8, at John L. Ziegenhein & Sons South City Chapel, followed by interment in Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The BackStoppers Inc.
